I have just replaced the water pump on my Nissan vanette van and am having trouble with the cam belt timing. Is it a matter of aligning the three pulleys with the three marks or is there more to it? Please help.
Hopefully you aligned there three timing marks before you removed the timing belt. If you did, then its just a case of re-setting them to there marks. However if you did not, then you have some major problems.

VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is synonymous to Honda. This breakthrough by Honda made it possible for lightweight engines to have outputs equivalent or greater than that of a much larger engine. The principle of Vtec is primarily using hydraulically actuated pin that is pushed horizontally to come in contact with the rocker arms. The valve springs are useful to return the pin from its original position. Ikuo Kajitani is amongst the people that were hired by Honda in the expansion of this venture. He talked about Vtec as making your engine breathe more freely as it undergoes more work, similar to the way the human lungs work. Vtec first appeared on the 1989 Integra version of Honda which brought the B16A engine code. Maintaining a 1595cc inline-4 16valve DOHC (Dual Overhead Cam) engine with VTEC produces 160ps-a thing that is incredibly exceptional for its size and displacement. Without a doubt this revolutionized the automotive industry during that time.
Vtec has a smaller sized counterpart that uses SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) engines which was generally regarded by the public as a ‘poor’ second rate derivative of the DOHC Vtec which is actually far from the truth. The SOHC Vtec engine has its own strengths when considering its weight and size but despite that it can also harness the power of Vtec providing high output with reduced fuel consumption. It also uses an identical principle of utilizing vtec on the intake valves. The SOHC Vtec’s public launch was from the year 1992-1995 and was housed on by the Civic/Civic Ferio.
